This
work explores identity in the context of displacement. In a disused tabaccofactory,
which was transformed into a refugee camp in Skodra/Albania (May 1999) as the
ethnic Albanians where fleeing Kosovo - Guilhem began studying the children
in an attempt to discover how identity is mediated and transformed through the
forced process of relocation. Each subject stands alone in the same place and
confront the veiwer, and in doing so force the viewer to examine the differences
and changes in identities which are brought and borrowed. "Refugee kids" explores
the way identities regulate and manifest themselves in spaces which are transcient
and passing. |
