Sevgi Safer is a British born Turkish Cypriot. She was born in East London in 1979, and is currently based there. She graduated with a photography degree from the Kent Institute of Art and Design in 2002, where she went on to work in publishing for Londra Gazete, the London Turkish newspaper. She is interested in issues that involve ethnic identity, cultural differences, and ancestral heritage. Her group exhibition "Untitled17" which featured her short film "floating head" was held at The Truman Brewery on Hackney's Brick Lane on 30th April 2002. She has made several appearances on London Turkish Radio, and continues to write features for Londra Gazete discussing various issues of identity, and Turkish culture in Britain.
